LYONS TWP REG. MEETING
FEBRUARY 4, 2019 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Supervisor Babcock with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Board members present were: J. Heckman, R. Scheurer, T. Thelen. Absent: J. Thelen. Two citizens were present. Minutes of the meeting of January 7, 2019 were presented for review. A motion was made by Scheurer to accept the minutes with the addition of $499.00 expenses paid from General Fund for a total of $109,681.55. Motion supported by T. Thelen. Motion carried. Correspondence: None Cemetery: Sexton B. Russell reported no burials last month, no lot sales, and no appointments. Russell and Trustee Scheurer visited the cemetery to assess the damage to the drive. Sexton Russell did repairs and it appears to have been sufficient to correct the damage at this time. Board discussed changing traffic pattern to one way only on the hill to prevent further damage. PUBLIC COMMENT: Connie Scheurer informed the Board that the Pewamo Branch of Union Bank will be closing and consolidated with the Westphalia Branch. The closure is to take place on May 1, 2019. Union Bank has offered services to provide an alternative for deposit processing. Travel will still be necessary for cash transactions. Board will keep options open. TREASURER’S REPORT: It was moved by T. Thelen, supported by R. Scheurer to approve the Treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried. Bills in the amount of $15,726.38 to the General Fund and $803.51 to the Building Fund were presented for payment. A motion to pay the bills was made by T. Thelen and supported by R. Scheurer. Motion carried. TOWNSHIP BUSINESS: Clerk Sandy Wolniakowski provided a copy of the updated Master Plan for the Village of Pewamo for the Township Board to review. Pewamo Village Clerk is to be notified of comments or questions. It was moved by T. Thelen, supported by R. Scheurer to provide $500.00 to the Lyons Historical Society for furnace repairs. Funds are to be taken from the Building Fund. Motion carried. Clerk Heckman informed the Board that the regulation of marijuana use in Township jurisdiction has been reviewed and the language approved by the attorney. The regulation will now be published. OTHER TOWNSHIP BUSINESS: Supervisor Babcock discussed the information received at the most recent quarterly meeting of Townships. Road maintenance continues to be of concern for all townships. Trustee’s requested that Supervisor Babcock discuss the removal of the edge of the road buildup prior to the application of gravel. Ditching is also necessary for proper water runoff. Babcock will report on his discussion with the Road Commission at the next monthly meeting. Supervisor Babcock provided information from MTA on the status of Assessor as it pertains to the preparation of the roll and certifies the roll of assessed real estate values. Clerk Heckman was instructed to inquire further with other townships on how they are classifying their Assessors. BUILDING FUND: Supervisor Babcock informed the Board of a leak in the Bank Bldg. Snow had caused a backup of water and was leaking down a window. Further verifies the need for caulking and repairs. There being no further business, it was moved by R. Scheurer, supported by T.
