LYONS TWP REG. MEETING
JUNE 7, 2021 The meeting was called to order with the Pledge to the Flag. There were 3 citizens, and 5 board members present. Minutes to the meeting were presented for review. A motion to accept the minutes was made by R. Scheurer and supported by A Hengesbach. Motion carried. Correspondence: There was no correspondence. Cemetery: The Port-a-potty is set up in the cemetery for the summer. B Russell took down the old building that was in the cemetery per the board’s request. Public comment: There was no public comment. Treasurer’s report: A motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented was made by R Scheurer and supported by A Hengesbach. Motion carried. The treasurer will put the next cd that is due into the building fund per the board’s request last meeting. Bills in the amount of $39,335.11 to the general fund and $1,173.03 to the building fund were presented for payment. A motion to pay the bills was made by R Scheurer and supported by J Thelen. Motion carried. TWP Business: At 6:45 we held the Truth and Taxation information and vote. There were citizens here that wondered what this was for. C Babcock discussed what it is all about. When there is a millage on the taxes the place receiving does not receive the whole millage a portion goes to the county. If the place wants to receive the whole millage there must be a truth and taxation vote taken. It is just a formality that needs to be done every year. Your taxes do not go up because of this. R Scheurer made a motion to approve the Truth and Taxation for 2021-2022 fiscal year J Thelen supported. A roll call vote was taken R Scheurer yes, J Thelen yes, A Hengesbach yes, C Babcock yes, and J Heckman yes. Motion carried. I’M SAFE sent a letter requesting money for their program. A Hengesbach made a motion and J Heckman supported the motion to send $500 from the building fund to the program with a request that someone comes to a meeting to inform the board what is happening with the money we send in our community. Fire Chief Randall sent a letter asking the board to help pay for the rescue truck they need. This is being tabled until July. Chief Randall also mentioned he is still working on paperwork for the dry hydrant. Should be done in a couple weeks. A letter was read from Lyons Township Library President Mary Peckins stating she is resigning her position. The board would like to thank Mary for all her work and dedication to the library and wish her well in retirement. C Babcock has talked with Diane Babcock, and she would like to take Mary’s position as President of the Library Board. R Sheurer made a motion to approve Diane Babcock as President of the Lyons Township Library Board and was supported by J Heckman. Motion carried. C Babcock informed the board that there is a shortage of brine drivers so we may not get all the brine we are supposed to get this year. There was talk about helping Hubbardston Fire Department out. This is tabled until we can get someone from Hubbardston at out meeting to discuss this further. Building: The board is looking into putting a fence around the south and part of the east side of the new office. Tom Bennett said he should be able to start on remodeling the new office on Monday June 14th. R Scheurer moved and A Hengesbach supported to give Tom Bennett 1/3 of seed money up front. Motion carried. A motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:30 was made by A Hengesbach and supported by R Scheurer. Motion carried. Clerk Julie Heckman Comments are closed.
