LYONS TWP REG. MEETING
MAY 6, 2019 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Supervisor Babcock with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Board members present were: J. Heckman, R. Scheurer, J. Thelen . Absent: T. Thelen. Three citizens were present. Minutes of the meeting of April 1, 2019 were presented for review. A motion was made by J. Thelen to accept the minutes with the addition of $120.00 expenses paid from General Fund for a total of $22,312.95 and addition of $197.58 paid from Building Fund for a total of $1,529.47. Motion supported by R. Scheurer. Motion carried. Correspondence: Clerk Heckman reported the Michigan Township Participating Plan distributed a divided to the Township in the amount of $201.31. Cemetery: Clerk Heckman reported there were two burials and one cremation during April. Board discussed the wall that has deteriorated and in the process of repair. B. Russell stated he would have the wall completed and debris removed prior to Memorial Day. R. Scheurer is to contact Williams Asphalt for bid on finishing the road in the cemetery. PUBLIC COMMENT: None TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer J. Thelen reported the transfer of the Tax Account to the General Fund. Due to the closing of the Pewamo Office of Union Bank, the Board instructed J. Thelen to contact both Union Bank and IBC on possibility of remote deposit and if there would be benefits in moving balances to another financial institution. It was moved by R. Scheurer, seconded by J. Heckman to approve the Treasurer’s report. Motion carried. Bills in the amount of $23,725.45 to the General Fund and $769.37 to the Building Fund were presented for payment. A motion to pay the bills was made by R. Scheurer and supported by J. Thelen. Motion carried. TOWNSHIP BUSINESS: It was moved by R. Scheurer, supported by J. Thelen to approve the agreement with Ionia County Road Commission to repair drainage and ditch Staley & Peckins Roads for a cost of $4,500.00. Motion carried. It was moved by R. Scheurer, supported by J. Thelen to approve the Gradall Agreement for 22A gravel @ 7.45 for 4500 yards for a total cost of $33,525.00. Board discussed Murphy and Wager Rds need gravel removed from ditches spread onto roads. Supervisor Babcock will provide request to the ICRC. Motion carried. OTHER TOWNSHIP BUSINESS: Pewamo Fire Chief Michael Yerge reported he had to withdraw from educational classes due to his recent illness. He will transfer to classes offered in Owosso. Michael offered to pay for difference in expense. Board agreed to forgive cost and pay for all class tuition and travel. Board discussed the agreement with Lebanon Township for stand-by fire protection. Information from Fowler Township on their agreement with Lebanon has not been received. Follow up is to be completed for June meeting. Chief Yerge informed the Board of the June 6th open house to preview the renovations to the Pewamo Fire Station. Open House will be from 4-6:00 pm. BUILDING FUND: No issues. Supervisor to get bids for painting and caulking and also tuck point on South and West wall. There being no further business, it was moved by R. Scheurer, supported by J.
